Cashel leading the way toward an Irish waste-free lifestyle

Head down to the zero-waste town of Cashel next week and you could be in with a chance. The Tipperary town is leading the way in a waste-free lifestyle and is playing host to reuse month this October.
The picturesque town is following in the footsteps of over 200 towns and cities globally in the fight against waste. This month they have organised a range of zero waste workshops that appeal to all ages and backgrounds as part of the Zero Waste Cashel project.
From taking old toys and transforming them into another child’s treasure, to turning food scraps into a feast. The reuse month is aimed to inspire people to rethink waste. Before you dispose of something, they want you to reassess the item; can it be reused, repaired or upcycled into something else?
It is a creative way to get involved with your community, reduce your waste and rethink your approaches to the environment and how you can play your part for the planet.
Among an array of events, two free seminars on exploring how to reduce your businesses food waste, energy waste and water waste will take place this Tuesday and Wednesday.
Both events will feature experts and practitioners who have implemented waste reduction first hand. They include guests such as Derry O’ Donnell, Zero Waste Cashel, James Hogan, Green Business Programme (Cashel and Nenagh), Sarah Broderick, Clean Technology Centre and many more.
The event is in association with the Green Business Programme. The innovative idea was designed to save your business money by focusing on waste, sustainability measures and introducing efficiency schemes.
Over the last decade the company have identified €10 million worth of savings for businesses, regardless of their size. Savings range from €250,000 from one company to €2,500 in another.
On Wednesday 25 October,, the event will be centred around “Reducing Waste and Reducing Costs in your Business”, in the Brú Ború Theatre, Cashel (9am-1pm).
Whilst on Thursday 26th, Tipperary Green Business Network in association with the Green Business Programme will host a seminar in the Abbey Court Hotel, Nenagh (9am-1pm).
Participants will also be in with an opportunity to snag one of three great prizes. 1st place is a Green Business Resource Efficiency Assessment worth €1,000- €3,000.
Second place is a EcoMerit waste assessment valued at €400 and the final prize with the value of €100, is an upcycled furniture item from Revived and Retro.
