Discover more about your Heritage with the European Heritage Days, 20th to 28th of August
15th of August, 2016
Starting this Saturday in Ireland, European Heritage Days will be celebrated during the whole week.
Each year, every country selects a few days or a week during which citizens are welcomed to a large variety of cultural sites. This is the most celebrated cultural event in Europe and the perfect occasion to discover more about our national patrimonies and to connect with our history and natural wealth.
From the 20th to the 28th of August, hundreds of events will be taking place across Ireland, from castles visits to museum and gardens, everyone can find a suitable activity according to their age, location and interest.
Several members of the Irish Environmental Network are organising activities in relation to the environment and the protection of nature. Don’t miss this great opportunity to discover more about their work and the implication for our natural heritage – why not get yourself involved?!

More than 20 million visitors explore these opportunities each year, which is also the opportunity for organisers to remind the public that the protection of our patrimony is crucial and to encourage them to get involved in matters of conservation.
The Council of Europe and the European Union are at the root of this initiative. In Ireland, the Heritage Council is the coordinator of the organisation since 2005, contributing to the growing influence of these events, with 1700 events organised in 2015.
