Enda Kenny is a real drip! Melting ice busts of Taoiseach and Minister Naughten unveiled outside Dáil
November 15, 2016
Stop Climate Chaos Ireland (Facebook, Twitter) have staged an interesting piece of performance art today in front of Dáil Éireann. Two ice-sculpture busts of Taoiseach Enda Kenny and Minister Denis Naughten are melting on this relatively warm November day in Dublin.
The somewhat caricatured faces of the politicians are actively melting as they are displayed in this mild 12°C weather today. The two ice-sculptures are labelled ‘Enda Kenny’ and ‘Denis Naughten’ areperched upon two white columns at the gates of the Dáil. This makes for a rather nice climate-performance piece as it is the uncharacteristically warm weather which is making two recognizable faces in Irish politics into blurry grayish heads defined mostly by the angular lines of their suits – icons on the corporate world indeed!
Making ‘the climate’ the agent of performance in an amusing ice-sculpture piece is not the only bright idea of this enthusiastic group. Stop Climate Chaos has a very clear message which it intends to deliver to politicians today through their voters. Their message as seen below contains three policy demands which it intends to communicate to elected representatives.

This message is particularly timely since Minister Naughten will address the United Nations COP22 meeting in Marrakech later today to speak about actions government will take in order to tackle climate change responsibilities. Minister Naughten’s comments are likely to generate interest in the wake of a recent report by the EPA which stated in clear terms that Ireland is not currently on track to meet its goals with relation to sustainable energy and greenhouse gas emissions.
