To celebrate Biodiversity Week this week, a group of lucky lottery winners won a trip to experience the fantastic wildlife on Lambay and Rockabill Islands. Guided by Marine Experts Johnny Woodlock and John Daly of the Irish Seal Sanctuary and given a fascinating overview of the history of the islands by skipper Eoin Grimes, a fantastic day out was enjoyed by all. Here are some of the best wildlife photos from the outing, we hope that you enjoy them. A puffin surfaces for a few moments before plunging again to feed on the sand eels that abound off Lambay Island. Approximately 250 pairs of Puffins nest on the Island.[/x_slide][x_slide]
Gannets also nest off the island, but they spend much of their time in the air looking for fish, before diving at great speed into the water. In their old age, many gannets end up blind as a result of hitting the water at such high speed.[/x_slide][x_slide]

Rockabill is home to Europe’s largest Roseate Tern colony, and they share the island with Common Terns, and also Arctic Terns – the bird with the longest migration, travelling from its Arctic breeding grounds to wintering grounds off Antarctica.[/x_slide][x_slide]
