New coalition formed to keep Ireland’s feet to the fire on Sustainable Development Goals

A new alliance has been formed of over 100 Irish civil society organisations to keep Ireland on track with the Sustainable Development Goals.
The group, called Coalition 2030, will work to keep up the pressure on the government to achieve its targets in relation to hunger, climate change and inequality.
Coalition 2030 is made up of international and domestic NGOs as well as youth organisations, environmental groups, academics, and Trade Unions whose expertise ranges from children and youth rights to environmental sustainability.
The environmental sector is represented by the Environmental Pillar, Eco-Unesco, and Friends of the Earth Ireland.
The group is having their media launch on March 1st in the Mansion House and it will be attended by the Minister for the Communications, Climate Action and Environment Denis Naughten.
Currently the group is seeking government action on the following:
- A National Acton Plan with a strong commitment from every government department to cooperate in reporting on how they will achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
- An inclusive Sustainable Development Goal Monitoring Forum in which civil society,and those vulnerable groups – both Irish and internationally – who stand to gain or lose most from Ireland’s work on the Goals, are fully represented at every stage.
- Increased financing for Development to support delivery of the SDGs in Ireland and internationally.
