Pine Marten researchers to challenge myths about this native Irish mammal

The Pine Marten have been much maligned in the media of late.
But despite some hysterical claims the resurgence of the Pine Marten is a very positive thing and has let to the resurgence of the red squirrel in some areas.
Later this month Pine Marten researchers from around Ireland are getting together to share the facts about this incredible animal.
The 2nd All-Ireland Pine Marten Symposium is open to anyone with an interest in the animal and will highlight advances in research, practical conservation and management techniques for this enigmatic species.
Ruth Hanniffy of the Vincent Wildlife Trust explains:
“We are pleased to announce the 2nd All-Ireland Pine Marten Symposium which will be held on the 14th and 15th October 2016, at Ti Chulainn Community and Conference Centre in Armagh.
“This two-day meeting has been organized to build on the success of the first meeting held in Galway during 2014 and bring together advances in research, practical conservation and management techniques for this enigmatic species.
“Day one will be focused on 15-minute talks by those involved in research, conservation and management of the species. The second day will involve a field trip to visit the pine marten den box scheme within the Ring of Gullion. This will be followed by practical sessions to demonstrate techniques for erecting pine marten den boxes.”
