6th April 2017 Ireland has the least climate-efficient agricultural sector in Europe, according to a new EU report. The heritage organisation has dismissed the campaign as ’empty PR’, while the semi-state company continues to extract peat on an industrial scale, in what An Taisce’s Climate Change Committee spokesperson John Gibbons describes as ‘one of the least sustainable and most environmentally unfriendly industries on the face of the planet’.
The charity, which works to preserve Ireland’s natural and built heritage, sets out seven key areas that must be acted upon to reduce carbon emissions and prevent runaway climate change. They appeal to the electorate to “question canvassers and candidates vigorously”, as well as directly seeking political parties’ policies on the issues.
